There’s no two ways about it, our weather pattern is stuck on WET ! ! ! The upper flow remains tapped into Pacific moisture as a trough remains poised along the Rockies. Various short waves and disturbances will keep migrating through the flow until Wednesday and Thursday when the upper trough finally comes by. That should dry out the weather for Central Alabama for the latter part of the week from Wednesday through Friday, but another trough coming out of the Southern Rockies by Saturday promises to bring another round of wet weather to the Southeast US for next weekend.

Looks like we warm up a little today. Actually the temperature has been rising since yesterday morning, albeit slowly, so we did not see the typical diurnal variation to our temperatures overnight. Snow, freezing rain, and sleet are creating some problems once again along the boundary between the trough to the west and the ridge to the east. Numerous winter weather advisories and warnings are in effect for a narrow band of counties stretching from Central Texas across Arkansas and West Tennessee and all the way to New York. Conditions are expected to improve somewhat later today for the southern states in that area from Kentucky back into Texas.

With this moist flow pattern, expect to see periods of rain off and on through Tuesday with temperatures generally in the 40s and 50s. As we see the return to some sunshine Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, I expect to see lows in the lower 30s and highs in the 50s as we stay colder than the seasonal averages for early December. Rainfall amounts for the next several days are likely to come in between 1 and 2 inches for most locations.

Not much change to the overall flow pattern for Week 2 as the flow remains active.

Congratulations to Auburn for the win over Missouri yesterday. Looks like I will be at odds with my Auburn friends since the National Championship appears to be between Florida State and Auburn. That should be quite a match up! Now if I can just figure a way to get to Pasadena!!

I had a great time emceeing the Helena Christmas Parade yesterday. It was so good to see so many folks turn out for our parade even as temperatures hovered in the upper 30s. And there were over 50 entries in the parade, so it was a great show. 44th annual Christmas parade in Helena will be in early December next year. Hope to see you there. James Spann will have the next Weather Xtreme Video on Monday morning. Godspeed.
