Quick peek at latest NAM shows surface low forming near Brownsville, TX Wednesday morning, moving to just south of Pensacola Thursday morning. Upstream trough associated with Arctic air coming into Plains states may be enough to keep low further south, making snow chances better for us.
Currently, NAM shows precipitation overspreading Alabama Wednesday night, with evaporative cooling getting 850 mb freezing line as far south as BHM by midnight, and 1000-850 mb thickness of 1300-1302 m (1300 is required for snow). Very close call. NAM would give BHM 3″ of snow if it verified. We’ll see what GFS and Canadian have later! Another update with graphics by midnight.
