When I was a kid, I woke up a few times to a home barometer with the needle below 29.80 inches. That was never a good sign.
29.78 this hour at Birmingham. 29.64 at Corinth MS. The pressure was falling rapidly at Coumbus, MS. Their dewpoint has jumped another 4 degrees in the past hour or so.
The dewpoint at Meridian is already 61F. At Jackson it is 64F.
On radar, storms across North and Central Alabama are approaching severe limits this morning. The main threat is still hail for now, although Muscle Shoals did have a wind gust to 49 mph. 0.88 inch hail was reported at Waterloo in Lauderdale County also. That’s the size of nickles.
Strong storms now cover parts of Marion… Winston…Fayette… Walker… northwestern Jefferson… northeastern Tuscaloosa…Chilton… NE Talladega and NW Calhoun.
A severe thunderstorm warning was just issued by the NWS Birmingham for SE Marion and NW Fayette Counties. A severe thunderstorm with good indications of hail was southwest of Winfield moving NW toward that Marion County town. Hail to 1.00 inch in diameter was indicated.
The warnign goes til 445 a.m. The strongest part of the storm will pass near Winfield and near Brilliant. Take precautions nw to protect property from hail. Brief very heavy rains and strong gusty winds will also be a problem.
