Just a quick update on the rain situation. Rain continued to be developing to our west moving steadily our way. Around 11:30 am, the leading edge of the rain ran from just west of Nashville, TN, to just west of Jackson, MS, to just east of Lake Charles, LA. The band of rain was about 80 miles wide though it was wider in Tennessee than in southern Louisiana.

Also, showers had developed from the Anniston area south-southwest toward Mobile and the north central Gulf of Mexico. All the rain was moving northeastward while the whole area was moving eastward.

It still appears that the forecast for rain this afternoon and this evening is on track. Rain will probably reach West Central Alabama in the vicinity of Pickensville and Hamilton around 1 pm and move steadily across the state of Alabama. Still some risk that we might see severe weather in the extreme southern portion of the state and Northwest Florida. Dewpoints along the Gulf coast were running around 66 to 70 as of the 11 am observations.

Storm total precipitation based solely on radar showed amounts to be between a half inch and one inch. That is encouraging news for us since the weather system should zip through pretty quickly. We need all we can get so an inch would be nice. I noted that Greenville, MS, had observed nearly three-quarters of an inch so far.
