We are in the wee morning hours of Friday and the weather is becoming more active across Alabama and the Deep South.

Just before 1 am, thunderstorms were increasing across South Mississippi and South Alabama. Many of the storms were elevated. Over in Mississippi, NWS Jackson had three South Mississippi counties under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for a time. Strong thunderstorms were spreading further north into Central Mississippi.

1/2 inch diameter hail was reported 8 miles WSW of Oak Vale, Miss., in Lawrence County.

In Alabama, showers were increasing and moving northward. The showers had spread as far north as Tuscaloosa, Marion and Montgomery. Could be some small hail over South Central Alabama.

NWS/Storm Prediction Center has these areas under a slight risk for severe weather today (Friday)

Far South Alabama from about Mobile and Dothan southward
Southeast Georgia
East half of both Carolinas
Virtually all of Florida

The surface low pressure area that we are all so interested in was over the NW Gulf at midnight.

To the west, snow was the main topic. At midnight it was 54 degrees in Birmingham and at the same time 39 in Memphis. It was snowing across much of Arkansas.

NWS/Huntsville said there were increasing indications of accumulating snow over NW Alabama tonight (Friday night) and Saturday morning.

Today will be an interesting 24 hours.

Need to get some sleep
