From our old friend Herb Coleman, who lives in North Pelham in Shelby County…
Hi J.B., and Bill,
J.B. hope you were able to get in your power nap and get a little rest. Hope all is well with you and your family.
I read the rain gage at noon today and we had have picked up another 1.71 inches since 7:a.m. This added to our previous total of 3.37 will bring us up to a total of 5.08 inches at noon and the heavy rain continues to fall at times. I can see Bishop creek with a pair of binoculars from where I am and it is over it’s banks at several points. I hope we will have a little break in the rainfall this afternoon so that some of this can run off before we get to a flood stage along the creek.
I have kept records of when Bishop creek flooded the area around it in past years, and it has taken an average of around 9 inches of rainfall in 48 hours for this happen. Hopefully we won’t reach that this time.

Fortunately, it looks like the rain in Shelby County will taper off soon for a little while. More showers and storms will continue to develop through the afternoon and tonight and there is a threat of severe weather as well.
