Snow was becoming more widesprerad across North and West Alabama this morning. The winter mosaic of radar indicates that almost of the precipitation is now in the form of snow.

Reports indicate that some of the bridges and overpasses in the Birmingham area are becoming icy. The temperature will continue to slowly fall so caution is advised.

The upper level “cold core” low will curve eastward this morning bringing more snow to East Alabama. The NWS has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the east part of the state where accumulations could reach 2 to 4 inches.

Because of the circulation around that low aloft, another band of heavier snow was spreading SE from North Mississippi into NW Alabama. This will eventually increase the snow intensity in the Birmingham area.

It will become quite windy as the day goes on with northerly gusts as high as 30 mph with temperatures struggling to get out of the 30s.

Some snow as far south as Montgomery at 5 am.

SPECIFIC 5 AM REPORTS
34 Birmingham, light snow, NW gusts to 24, wind chill 24
34 Montgomery, light snow
36 Alexander City, light snow
36 Mobile, NW gusts to 33, wind chill 25
33 Tuscaloosa, light snow.
