That cluster of strong thunderstorms that went up the east side of the state this afternoon was rolling into NE Alabama at 5:30. The strong storms extended from the Jefferson/Blount County line NE to Ft. Payne. The stronger ones will be rolling into Jackson County toward Scottsboro (the northeasternmost county in Alabama).

Meanwhile, 50 to 70 miles to the south strong thunderstorms were rolling north from Autauga County into Chilton County. Those were producing lots of lightning, strong gusty winds and very heavy downpours of rain. Coosa and Chilton Counties, as well as Elmore County, are mainly in the path of that batch of storms.

These reports from the storms this afternoon:

* Power lines down in parts of Sylacauga earlier.

* 0.52 rain in South Pinson at Carson Road and Red Hollow Road.

* Wind gust to 46 mph at the Gadsden Skycam on the ridge near Noccalulu Falls.

* Gusts to 41 mph at the new Trussville Skycam on Chalkville Mountain Road.

* Unconfirmed report of some business windows blown out in Leeds.

* At Walnut Grove in NE Alabama, high winds were blowing trashcans around and the temperature fell quickly to 71 degrees. Walnut Grove is near the Blount/Etowah County line at the extreme west edge of Etowah County.
