Heavy rain continues over a number of counties in West, Central and North Alabama this evening.

However, we are glad to report that the intensity of the rain is beginning to slacken off somewhat. However, it is still pouring in many areas, especially along the eastern edge of the broad rain system that has now overspread places like Cherokee, Etowah, St. Clair, Shelby and Bibb Counties. It is raining very heavily over Eastern Shelby County including Columbiana and Wilsonville. That is about to spread into Talladega County. It was also pouring in Cherokee and Etowah Counties.

Steady rain continues over most of Pickens, Greene, Tuscalosoa, Jefferson and Walker Counties, but not quite as heavy as earlier. Numerous automobile accidents have been reported, as well as traffic jams.

The Flash Flood Warning continues for several counties until 8:15. A few late reports:

* 1.50 inches of rain so far at Gardendale/Mt. Olive
* Three miles WSW of Cleveland in Blount County a ham radio report of flash flooding earlier on Highway 160. The highway was closed at Locust Fork with water covering the roadway. That was at 4:15 p.m.

We we try to post a round up of rain amounts a little later this evening. We do not get a lot of reports until about 7:30.
