An intense little storm formed over western Montgomery a short time ago, and it just produced a 65 mph wind gust at Dannelly Field. Here is the report….

So be alert for the potential for damaging downburst winds from this afternoon’s pulse type thunderstorms.
Showers and storms continue to expand in coverage and grow in intensity this afternoon across North and Central Alabama.
The largest concentration of showers and thunderstorms is over the Wet Central part of the state covering parts of Lamar, Fayette, Pickens and Tuscaloosa Counties. Storms have become active in the southern part of Lamar County between Millport and Vernon, putting down lots of lightning and very heavy rain. Pickens and Lamar County were just placed under a Significant Weather Alert by the NWS Birmingham. This is a step short of a Severe Thunderstorm Warning.
The activity is beginning to look like it is moving more southwestward as it grows in intensity.

Showers were over the Northwest corner of the state…
Storms over southern Jackson and eastern Marshall County were moving southward into western DeKalb County.
That’s a decent little storm over in western Georgia between LaFayette and Valley Head.
Storms are picking up in intensity over southern St. Clair County and northern Talladega County. moving generally southward toward the City of Talladega.
Be alert for strong winds, small hail, intense rainfall and lots of deadly lightning in this afternoon’s storms.
