That line of strong to severe thunderstorms was finally crossing the Mississippi-Alabama border at 7 o’clock this morning.

Overall, the line of storms has weakened a bit. The NWS Storm Prediction Center and NWS/Birmingham had a pow-wow and reached a decision that an extension of a Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado Watch into Alabama can hold off for several hours.

Still, there will be some heavy rain, strong south winds and plenty of thunder and lightning as the line of storms moves east. The main action should be along the I-65 corridor around mid-morning.

This does not mean that we will not see some warnings later or even a watch.

This is a very wet weather system and parts of Alabama could get one to two inches of rain.

There has not been a formal warning with this line of storms since a Severe Thunderstorm Warning out of Jackson at 5:44 am.

Be aware that winds will be quite strong out of the south ahead of that line of storms. On the ridges, we could easily have gusts to 50 mph even with no thunderstorm around..

Ahead of the main line, showers and thunderstorms increased this morning over NW Alabama, Lots of rain and storms now as far east as Huntsville, Cullman and Fayette. The 33/40 Skywatcher at Vinemont, in North Cullman County reports heavy rain with thunder and lightning.

To our west and NW, lots of flash-flooding from this storm system especially in Missouri, Arkansas and North Texas. As much as 11 inches of rain in SE Missouri!
