Rain was becoming widespread early tonight over West and North Alabama ahead of a cold front that was approaching the state. Thunderstorms were also embedded in the rain but so far not severe.

At 7:15 pm, it was pouring rain in these areas:

Pickens County
Lamar County
Marion County
Winston County

The 33/40 Skywatcher for Bear Creek in NE Marion County reported that it was raining “cats and dogs” to use an old-fashioned term.

Numerous showers were also Choctaw and Pickens in West Alabama eastward to Bibb and Chilton County in the heart of Central Alabama

There was a very heavy shower over Central Walker County. In NE Alabama, an individual storm was giving heavy rain along the Calhoun-Cherokee County line.

WVSM Radio reported some road flooding late this afternoon in Rainsville (what a paradox!) The flooding was not major but water was over some lanes of highways 35 and 75 downtown.
