A line of showers and thunderstorms was progressing eastward through West Alabama. The strongest ones extended from Franklin County down through Eastern Marion County into Fayette County.
The National Weather Service has issued a significant weather alert for Tuscaloosa, Fayette and Walker Counties until 10:00 p.m. The thunderstorms in those areas could produce wind gusts to 35-45 mph along with frequent cloud-to-ground lightning.
A significant weather alert is short of a warning.
The ABC 33/40 skywatcher in Fayette reported a gust to 41 mph at 8:55 p.m.
We are still under a slight risk of severe weather for tonight and part of Thursday, but so far no watches or warnings have been posted in Alabama.
