Precipitation continues to spread north eastward across the SE states and including much of Alabama.

At 9:40 a.m., the north edge of the precipitation had reached Central Jefferson County and most of Tuscaloosa County across to East/Central Alabama. It continues to spread toward the NE. At the onset of the precipitation, there is some sleet mixed in. Here are some of the locations where sleet has been reported so far this morning:

…Eastern Valley Road near Bessemer (thanks to Kirk Cahoon)
…Cottondale, but a late report indicated the sleet had changed to light rain at 9:11 a.m.
…At Pleasant Grove, in West Jefferson County, the report said light rain.
…Light sleet in Brookwood in East Tuscaloosa County and also in the Bessemer area.
…Light sleet and rain mixed near the VA Hospital in Tuscaloosa.
…An earlier report indicated all light rain at WTXT Radio studios in Tuscaloosa.

Down south, the precipitation is heavier in places like Wilcox and Dallas County.

The heaviest rain with this entire system, at this time, is over extreme South Mississippi and SE Louisiana. At mid morning, temperatures were mostly in the upper 30s across the I-20 corridor, but as warm as 43 in Tuscaloosa. Mid 30s were reported across the extreme north. Over the south half of the state, temperatures varied between 41 and 43.

WHERE IS THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM?
At mid morning, the center was over the West Gulf of Mexico about 200 miles south of New Orleans. A high pressure system was centered over East North Carolina setting up an easterly wind flow across most of Alabama.
