Almost nothing going on late this morning.
Not unexpected. On days like this, noon seems to be the time when the green flag is waved.
There has been some scattered showers near the coast this morning. At 10:30, they were mostly light. However, we have one report of 1.33 inches of rain in about 45 minutes early today on Dauphin Island.
In yesterday’s storms, one of the biggest rain amounts was 4.70 inches six miles WSW of Mobile.
A REMINDER ABOUT SLOW MOVERS
Simple math would tell us that when thunderstorms are creeping along (like yesterday) that some people will get an overdose of rain while others not far away will have to be content with hearing the music (thunder) An interesting email from Annette Fincher in Crestwood tells of getting stranded in a supermarket on Montevallo Road yesterday afternoon for a good 45 minutes because it was raining so hard and dangerous lightning. When she finally got in her car and went over the ridge behind Medical Center there was only light rain. She was wondering how much rain fell on Montevallo Road where she and others were stranded. My guess would be two inches. Doppler radar estimates showed that much.
We all know that speed of forward movement determines how much acreage benefits from a shower. If it is moving at 20 mph, about twice as much area will get rain compared to a movement of only 10 mph.
