DELIGHTFUL DAY: The weather doesn’t get much better in June in Alabama; sunshine in full supply, a blue sky, lower humidity, and temperatures below average. In fact some North Alabama communities are barely out of the 70s today despite the sunny sky.
Tonight will be clear and pleasant; many spots will reach the 50s again early tomorrow morning. We note Black Creek, Valley Head, and Russellville all dropped to 51 degrees this morning.
Tomorrow will be a sunny day, and we rise to near 90 degrees by afternoon as a warming trend begins.
FRIDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND: Look for low 90s Friday, and mid 90s Saturday and Sunday for potential the hottest weekend so far this year. Days will remain mostly sunny; any afternoon showers should be few and far between thanks to an upper ridge.
NEXT WEEK: The ridge weakens a bit, and the week looks like it will feature some pretty routine June weather. Partly sunny, hot, humid days with the risk of “widely scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms” on a daily basis. Highs mostly in the low 90s. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
AT THE BEACH: Mostly sunny days, fair nights on the Gulf Coast from Panama City Beach over to Gulf Shores through the weekend; a few scattered showers and storms are possible Saturday and Sunday. Highs in the 80s on the immediate coast, with mid 90s inland by the weekend. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.
TROPICS: A disturbance around the Yucatan Channel has a low (10 percent) chance of slow development as it moves northeast in coming days; otherwise the Atlantic basin are quiet.
AIR QUALITY ALERT: A code orange air quality alert has been issued for the Birmingham metro (Jefferson/Shelby Counties) tomorrow…
