A fairly large cluster of showers and thunderstorms continue to move northward through Central and East Alabama this afternoon. At 3:45, some of the stronger storms were in the north edge of Shelby County, across North Talladega County, getting ready to move into St. Clair and Calhoun Counties. Other storms over North Shelby County were heading toward the Birmingham metro area. Other scattered storms will cross Chilton, Coosa, Tallapoosa and Chambers Counties. They, too, were moving generally northward.

Down in South/Central Alabama, another cluster of storms covered mainly Lowndes and Wilcox Counties southward to near Brewton. Everything was moving north.

Those East Alabama storms were producing a tremendous amount of lightning. The EMA Office in Talladega reported power lines down on roads in the Commerdale area off old Sylacauga highway at 3:37 pm. Not sure if it was caused by lightning or high wind.
