It dipped to 28 degrees on my home weather station this morning. That’s my coldest temperature so far this season. So I just had to borrow a bad word from a famous coach from a school where I graduated – apologies to Mr. Bobby Bowden.

And at least two Alabama records have been established this morning. Tuscaloosa dropped to 27 which breaks the old record of 28 set in 1952. And in Montgomery, their temperature bottomed out at 31 which is a new record breaking the old one of 32 set in 2001.

Huntsville also tied a record yesterday. The high of 52 was the coldest high for the date first set in 1910.

But one of the most amazing things about Southeastern weather is how it can bounce back. After two chilling days with daytime values only in the 50s – that’s about 14 to 18 degrees below seasonal values – we should begin to bounce back today. Much of Central Alabama will probably challenge the 60-degree mark today and maybe even the 70-mark on Thursday as the air moderates nicely but stays dry. Still another relatively cold morning tomorrow before temperatures come up nicely.

PS My dog, Cheyenne, just does not like these chilly mornings and getting her feet cold in the chilled grass. Can’t blame her.
