Here it is November and we’re dealing with the latest tropical system, Paloma, which is expected to become a hurricane tomorrow. In fact, the National Hurricane Center projects Paloma to become a Category 2 storm before crossing Cuba on Sunday.
I got to thinking that Cuba seems to have had it’s share of storms this year, so I peeked into the archives to see how the 2008 hurricane season shaped up for them. Paloma will be the FOURTH tropical system to impact Cuba this year. And the THIRD hurricane.
It all began in mid August with Tropical Storm Fay. Fay helped out the drought conditions here, but fortunately only affected Cuba as a tropical storm.
Then at the end of August came Gustav. Gustav also gave Alabama concerns but went a bit further west into Louisiana. Gustav crossed the western end of Cuba.
Just a week later came Ike from September 7 to 10. Ike was a bear for Cuba as it went from east to west along the entire length of the Cuban country.
That was three storms in 26 days – Wow!
And now Paloma which is expected to cross Central Cuba in a couple of days.
I can only imagine that the Cuban people will be really glad to see the 2008 hurricane season come to end. And they certainly have the right to call this season BAD!
