Significant changes are underway with Alabama weather. Early this afternoon a cold front divided the state from the NE corner around Scottsboro to the SW corner north of Mobile. A heavy blanket of clouds covered almost all the state, but clearing had taken place over extreme West Tennessee and NW Mississippi.

At 12:30 p.m., most of the rain had ended over the western two-thirds of Alabama. The rain still in the state was limited mostly to counties near the Georgia border with the heaviest rain over Randolph and Chambers Counties.

A few patches of light rain have stayed behind over the northern counties, but affecting just a small area. There is some scattered light drizzle hanging back also. For a brief time just before noon, a little light sleet was reported at the automated weather station at Haleyville.

High school championship football games are scheduled this afternoon and evening at Legion Field in Birmingham. One kicks off at 3:00 p.m. and the other at 7:00 p.m. It is going to be quite chilly with temperatures in the 40s, but most of the rain will be well to the east.
