Precipitation has ended over extreme NW Alabama as the cold front pushes further southward into the state. However, we have received a number of reports of light sleet across the northern part of the state and even a few snowflakes.

Two recent reports: James Payton, our Huntsville Skywatcher who lives partway up Monte Sano, reports all sleet and moderate at times. Mike Wilhelm at work in Decatur, also reporting sleet and he said it was more like sleet showers with the intensity varying quite a bit. It was mostly light and no accumulation. Earlier we got a report from midway between Russellville and Red Bay of some light sleet partially covering their deck, but none on the roads.

Sleet was reported at the NWS office in Huntsville located at UAH. Sleet was also reported in the Madison area by an NWS employee. Around 9:41, the Lawrence County EMA office reported sleet. A spotter report earlier indicated the sleet in Florence was only a dusting.

Still another spotter report from the town of Cherokee indicated it had been snowing about an hour with the ground beginning to whiten some. That was an earlier report at 9:04 a.m. and most of the precipitation has now moved out of the area.

COLD FRONT POSITION
The front has now pushed over into NE and East/Central Alabama and even to the Atlanta area. It angles southwestward across SE Alabama and the front was approaching Troy and Dothan. It is moving quickly. Temperatures at 10:00 were still in the 60s over the extreme SE part of Alabama, but as low as 34 in Haleyville and 36 in Muscle Shoals.
