A few clouds this morning, but it sure looks like another fine spring-like day for Central Alabama as temperatures again climb to highs around the 70-degree mark. And warm weather is expected to stay with us through Tuesday with a stubborn upper air ridge parked over the Southeast US keeping any approaching fronts at bay.

The closed low over the Southwest US will eject out a short wave Monday which will take a surface low northward to the western Great Lakes while dragging a front close to us. But the main short wave comes out on Tuesday, and that should bring another surface low across the Central US. This system should be strong enough to breakdown the ridge and bring the front through Central Alabama on Wednesday. Nearly all of Alabama is in the outlook area for possible severe weather on Wednesday with good moisture and strong low level flows plus a favorable wind profile for tornadoes. But there is a lack of strong instability, so it appears now that this could be another one of those high shear/low instability situations. Since we are a few days away from it, though, it will be the focus of discussion until it arrives.

We get a nice day on Thursday before the fast moving flow brings another short wave across the Central US on Friday. That upper system is likely to bring another round of rain chances our way late Friday and early Saturday with improving weather during the latter half of Saturday. Sunday a week away looks like another beautiful day with temperatures mild for this time of year.

Quite a change evident in the solution for the following week as the GFS is not projecting a deep trough over the eastern half of the country around the 19th. This would mean a change back to colder weather for much of the eastern half of the country, but it is a nearly complete flip from the solution yesterday – that’s why we refer to it as voodoo! But winter does not officially end until the end of March, so we can’t expect to be done with cold weather just yet.

It was nice to gather with others involved and interested in storytelling yesterday in Clanton to form the Alabama Storytelling Association. Looking forward to seeing what this new venture will bring forth. Plus it was so nice to take a drive down I-65 and back in the beautiful sunshine and warm weather. James Spann will have the next Weather Xtreme Video tomorrow morning. Godspeed.
