It sure looks like Central Alabama will enjoy a very nice day. We’re starting the day off chilly with morning lows in the 20s for most spots. But with lots of sun we should see highs climb well into the 50s – even pushing the 60-degree mark. But a front to our northwest will come blasting through quickly tonight and that should mean a rapid increase in clouds this afternoon and early evening with rain likely from about 6 pm through 3 or 4 am. Most places are likely to see a quarter of an inch with some briefly heavier showers bringing up to a half inch of rain. The cold air arrives quickly, too, meaning there is a very small window for a few snow flurries.

But I said “blasting through” so that by daybreak tomorrow the front will be long gone with a mostly sunny but chilly day for us. Highs Sunday will be in the 40s, about 10 to 12 degrees below average values for mid-February. The deep trough over the eastern half of the country Sunday will edge eastward and fill returning us to zonal flow by Tuesday and Wednesday.

But a new trough is expected to dig into the north central US on Thursday bringing another storm system through the Central US and dragging a front into the Southeast on Friday. But in much the same fashion as the current system, it is expected to move through quickly paving the way for a sunny but cool Saturday a week from today.

In the long range, typically referred to as voodoo country, the GFS maintains the pattern of a return to a fast, zonal flow followed by another storm system around March 6th and 7th. It sure appears that there are no extremes in the immediate future – as in the next couple of weeks.

Ugh, got to work on assembling all the tax paperwork this weekend. I don’t mind paying my taxes, but I do hate getting all the documentation together! But I will. I hope that you have a great Saturday and have an opportunity to enjoy the nice day. Next Weather Xtreme Video should be posted tomorrow morning by 8 am. Godspeed.
