Late this afternoon, rain had tapered off from Tuscaloosa, Jefferson and Blount County northward.
However, a broad band of moderate to heavy rain continued in areas east and south of Birmingham well down into Southwest Alabama.
Already, as much as 1.74 inches of rain at West Blocton, in Bibb County.
We will have several more rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms and more heavy amounts of rain.
NWS posted a Flash Flood Watch from 10:00 tonight through Thursday morning. We could easily get another 2 to 3 inches of rain overnight.
Moderate to heavy rain just east and south of the Birmingham area will diminish by this evening, but more storms were already forming in Central Mississippi and another big complex in Texas. Those new thunderstorms will reach Birmingham later tonight, especially after midnight, again producing heavy rain and some may be severe.
Those should move on east of our area later tomorrow morning. However, still another round of thunderstorms Thursday night–some severe and some more very heavy rain.
We still believe that our most pronounced threat of severe weather will be late Friday and Friday night and finally ending Saturday morning. This has the potential of being a significant threat and I would not be surprised to see the Storm Prediction Center upgrade our risk to Moderate during that time.
Finally, sunshine and a lot cooler on Sunday.
We will be on watch throughout the night as the new storms approach and, of course, throughout the event.
