It has been quite a night in Alabama. I feel sure that if we could get an actual count, we would find that thousands of trees were uprooted across the state tonight.

NWS continues the High Wind Warning until 4 am for a number of counties in North central and Central Alabama. That sounds like about the correct timing over west and NW Alabama, but strong winds may last longer than that over parts of Central and NE Alabama.

Winds has subsided to near 10 mph over on the west and NW side of the state based on hourly reports at 3 am from the regular reporting stations. Some 3 am official wind gusts from the airports

30 mph Gadsden Airport
44 mph Birmingham Airport
23 mph Shelby County Airport

RADAR CHECK
At 3:30 am, widespread heavy rain (a wide band of it) extended all the way from Cleburne, Randolph and Chambers County on the east side of the state southwestward to south of Montgomery and into SW Alabama north of Mobile. Most of the lightning was from south of Montgomery to north of Mobile. Tornado Watch continues until 10 am for part of South Alabama.

We will post some more spot reports in a few minutes.
