At 9:15 am, this is where the main thunderstorms in Alabama were pounding away:
East Cullman County
North and Central Blount
Etowah
Part of madison and Marshall
Dekalb
Cherokee
North Calhoun
Some of the very strongest storms were:
* Along the Blount-EtowahCounty line
* NE Calhoun County near Piedmont
A Significant Weather Alert continues for Blount and Etowah County until 9:45.
So far no significant hail reports because the freezing level is between 11,000 and 12,000 feet.
Overall, it appears the storms are getting a little tired in the last 30 minutes. But still too strong to ignore. Lightning detection equipment shows a slow decline.
These storms are leaving the Birmingham Metro high and dry but others will be coming down the pike later today.
