My wife Jennifer and I headed out to catch the bow echo coming into southwest Alabama. We were focused on that, and didn’t realize supercell storms had formed close to BHM until we got near Hoover.

This is an example of why storm chasing in a densely populated area is not recommended. Traffic lights, mountains and trees, buildings. If a tornado had been coming right at us, we may not have been able to get out of the way.

But, we caught the bow echo on I-65. We wanted to get there and stop at an exit and wait for it, but it was moving too fast. The trees down on the interstate show why, if you know a storm is approaching, it’s best to get off at an exit and wait it out.
