It’s deja vu all over again as the Southeast US and Central Alabama remain plagued by storms along a stalled boundary while the westerlies remain well to the north.

The morning radar view once again showed a large cluster of storms to our west just as we saw twice yesterday – once in the morning and very early afternoon and again last night. The storms are a result of the floating boundary that has plagued the area for the last week or so plus little ripples in the upper flow that help to increase the lift. And this pattern will remain with us for the next couple of days before we get a little break on Tuesday. This also means the possibility of strong to severe storms across the Southeast – generally across and just south of central Mississippi and Alabama.

Rainfall amounts could reach 3 to 4 inches in some areas where we get the strongest storms combined with the training of cells over some of the same areas. These factors have resulted in a band of flash flood watches extending from Southeast Oklahoma to Alabama. Clouds and rain should hold temperatures down somewhat today and Monday as they did yesterday though we still remain at or above average values for early May.

A slightly stronger ridge over the Gulf Coast on Tuesday combined with a surface high centered over the Ohio River Valley should provide us with a dry day Tuesday to give us a break. However, the moist air mass returns for the latter half of the week at least keeping daily showers in the forecast.

And the GFS is now suggesting next weekend could be stormy as a relatively strong trough with a pretty good amplitude comes through the flow on Saturday and Sunday. On the current timing it should bring a bit of refreshing weather to the beginning of the next week.

And in voodoo country the GFS is trying to cut off a low around the Outer Banks. But I’m not sure I can buy that since the GFS has been struggling to peg the current pattern well. But we will see. And the GFS brings a ridge back to the Southeast around the 25th.

I had a great time at the Buck Creek Festival yesterday serving as emcee. It was wonderful to have a surprise visit from Bo Bice who played with our headliner last night, Deputy 5. Unfortunately a little rain came right at the end of the festival, but otherwise it was great. You can check out the festival at www.buckcreekfestival.com complete with pictures from the event.

James Spann will be up tomorrow morning with the next edition of the Weather Xtreme Video. I hope everyone has a great Mother’s Day. Godspeed.
