That pesky line of thunderstorms continues to move toward the SW. At 12:15 a.m., the line extended from Central Talladega County and the east edge of Shelby County down across the Alexander City area to south of Lake Martin into Eastern Elmore County and Northern Macon County into Russell County.
It is not a solid line, but the upper part of the line in Talladega County is growing stronger. The NWS has issued a Significant Weather Alert for Barbour and Russell Counties until 1:00 a.m.
The NWS has also issued a new Severe Thunderstorm Warning for:
SE Elmore County
North Montgomery County
West-Central Macon County
until 1:00 a.m (CDT). The main storm, the subject of the warning, was west of Tallassee and moving SW at 25 mph. It should be in the Montgomery area by around 12:50 a.m. The storm may produce large hail and damaging winds up to 60 mph. The hail could be as big as the size of quarters.
Closer to the Birmingham area, we will be watching the northernmost storm as it moves down into Southern Talladega County, as well as the NE and east part of Shelby County. Lightning in this storm can be seen from Meadowbrook.
