Active weather is getting off to an early start on this Sunday morning.

One storm complex is moving through Northeast Alabama at this hour with another firing up over eastern Mississippi.

In Mississippi, a strong cluster of storms extends from north and east of Tupelo to west of Columbus and then southwestward to near Woodland. The NWS Memphis has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Itawamba, Lee, Monroe [MS] till 8:45 AM CDT.

This complex will bring the potential for damaging wind gusts to Marion and northern Lamar Counties in less than 30 minutes. Be ready in a sturdy structure as these storms approach. It is moving ESE at nearly 50 mph.

Moderate to heavy rain covers much of Northeast Alabama at this hour generally east of I-65 and north of I-20.

Some of the heaviest cells were…
…in the Argo area of NE Jefferson County…
…approaching the City of Gadsden
…and over Cullman, Morgan and eastern Winston Counties.
All folks through Marion and in northern Lamar as far south as Vernon need to be ready.

Much of the state is included in the SPC’s slight risk outlook for severe weather today. That means keep an eye to the sky. Be alert for the potential for damaging winds and very heavy rain. And don’t forget the lightning. It is deadly.
