MOIST AIR LINGERS: Yesterday was one of those days when some parts of the state were soaked with two inches of rain or more, while other places barely got enough rain to wet the pavement. That is the way it goes with summer convection in our state, and today will offer another chance of showers and storms statewide. But, drier air north of Alabama will slowly move south, this looks like our last day with a decent chance of showers for a while.

DRIER AND HOTTER DAYS AHEAD: The rest of the week looks mostly rain-free for the northern half of the state, with afternoon highs rising back into the low 90s. A strong upper ridge will get it’s act together west of Alabama as the week progresses, and as that noses in here from the west I would not be shocked to see part of West Alabama head for the mid and upper 90s late in the week. But, we will generally stay on the eastern periphery of the ridge, so the hottest weather should remain to the west, and there is hope for at least a few isolated afternoon storms Friday.

WEEKEND PEEK: Looks like showers and storms over the weekend will remain widely scattered, with highs mostly in the low to mid 90s. Another words, typical July weather.

TROPICS: All is quiet for now, and tropical storm formation is not expected through mid-week across the Atlantic basin.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. We will record a new episode tonight; it should be posted by 10:30.
