That cluster of real strong thunderstorms that we have been tracking since about 10:00 last night, is now rolling into the Birmingham metro area from the NW. The leading edge of the strong storms are now from about Oneonta to Trussville to downtown Birmingham and then to North Tuscaloosa County.

However, the gust front, or outflow boundary, running ahead of the storm has advanced as far south as Leeds, Homewood, Bessemer and to near Vance in Tuscaloosa County.

There may be some gusts to around 40 mph along that gust front, however, the ABC 33/40 Skywatcher, Joshua Vest, advised that the winds were not that strong when it reached South Pinson. In Mountain Brook, John Brown reported a 24 mph gust at 12:35 a.m.

NWS/Birmingham has issued another Special weather Statement for Jefferson and Shelby Counties because of these storms. Winds up to 40 mph are expected. Just a few of the communities and locations in the path of these storms include:
Vulcan Park
Mountain Brook
Samford University
Shannon
McCalla
Lake Purdy

The Significant Weather Alert for Jeffersona and Shelby goes until 1:15 a.m.
