The cluster of showers along with some thunderstorms that slipped across the border into West Alabama earlier this afternoon continues to move toward the NE. At 4:00 p.m., the indistinct line of storms extended from East Tuscaloosa County near Vance northward through West Jefferson County near Oak Grove and then through Eastern Walker County and curving NW through Western Winston County, NE Marion County into Franklin County. Movement is toward the NE. There have been some fluctuations in the intensity. If they hold up, some will reach the downtown Birmingham area before 5:00.
Away from that group, an individual moderate to heavy shower was over West Perry County.
These showers and storms were probably triggered by a much more extensive broad line of showers and storms that now extends from West Tennessee down across NW and West Mississippi into South Louisiana. It was pouring rain west and SW of Jackson and also east of Memphis.
There have been a number of warnings with this system over the last 24 hours. The more recent ones issued by NWS in Little Rock, Shreveport and Lake Charles, Louisiana. There have also been some Flash Flood Warnings.
Despite the increase in humidity, it was still fairly comfortable today. Dew points at 4:00 p.m. were in the lower 60s over NE Alabama and generally in the middle 60s in Central Alabama. That is still comfortable for a July afternoon, especially with temperatures in the mid to upper 80s.
