Kathy Bell sent these great fireworks shots from the Fourth of July in Orange Beach.

I asked her for a few tips on how they were made. She replied:

They were taken using a Canon EF 24-70 mm 1:2.8 lens. The key to getting good fireworks shots is using the appropriate camera settings.

The camera must be set to manual so that you can control the shutter speed, the ISO and the aperture.

By setting the shutter to BULB it will enable you to use a cable release so that you can control how long the shutter stays open.

Even though the fireworks are being set off after dark you can keep your ISO set to 100 because the subject is very bright. The aperture can vary from 5.6 to 11. On these photos it was set to 8.0.

Are you ready to tackle lightning, Kathy?
