Showers and thunderstorms were increasing over North Alabama at midday and new ones were forming at various locations around the rest of the state. The most significant cluster of storms extended from near Jasper northward to near Cullman and Decatur as well as over much of Winston County and South Lawrence County. Movement was almost due east.

We are also watching increasing thunderstorm activity over NE Mississippi which will be moving eastward into NW Alabama. Quite a few showers also in progress over SE Alabama from about Troy south of Dothan. Those, too, were moving toward the east.

There is a chance that some of these North Alabama storms can grow strong enough to be briefly severe. The NWS/Storm Prediction Center has about the north half of Alabama under a Slight Risk of severe weather for this afternoon and tonight. Other areas in that Slight Risk area include North and Central Mississippi, NW Georgia from about Atlanta northward, extreme NW South Carolina, Western North Carolina, SE Kentucky and almost all of Tennessee.

We will be on watch.
