MUGGY DAYS: Tropical air continues to cover Alabama this morning, and will go nowhere through Friday. Each day we will have the risk of a few showers and storms, most numerous during the afternoon and evening hours. But due to the nature of the airmass, a late night or morning shower is certainly possible. Highs will be mostly in the mid to upper 80s, and we will see a few peeks of sunshine each day. Basically, not much change from what we experienced yesterday. The showers and storms just form in different places.
FRIDAY: We expect an increase in the number of showers and thunderstorms Friday as a surface front approaches. The front will be supported by a strong upper trough over the eastern U.S.; that trough will keep tropical trouble away from the U.S., and also bring some refreshing air to the Deep South following the surface frontal passage.
NICE WEEKEND: Sunny days, clear nights, lower humidity, and cooler mornings. Sure sounds good as dry air moves into Alabama following the cold front. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s, and we will be down in the low 60s by daybreak Sunday, with 50s possible for the cooler valleys. The dry weather will linger into Monday.
TROPICS: Still no sign of any regeneration of Ana as the wave is nearing the Southeast Gulf of Mexico. Even if this does not get it’s act together again, the moisture most likely will move up the surface front late Friday and Saturday, perhaps bringing heavy rain to parts of the Atlantic coast. The big story is big bad Bill, now a major hurricane in the open Atlantic northeast of the Leeward Islands. No change in the forecast track; it should pass between Bermuda the the U.S. East Coast Saturday, then winding up close to the Canadian maritimes Monday as a weakening system. No U.S. landfall, but no doubt the surf will be up big time along the middle Atlantic coast this weekend. The surfer dudes will love it, but our advice is to stay away; we always hear of tragic drownings in this kind of situation.
