As of 5:28 p.m., here is the leading eastern edge of the line of intense thunderstorms that have caused problems all afternoon. They extend from west of Gadsden, to Oneonta, moving into the downtown Birmingham area, to east of Tuscaloosa near Vance, and into North Greene County north of Eutah moving generally eastward.

NWS continues Flash Flood Warnings for portions of Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Shelby and Blount Counties. Rain has been extremely heavy this afternoon. It is likely that some communities received over 3 inches that we will get reports from later. Earlier this afternoon at Hamilton in NW Alabama, 1.53 inches fell in only 1 hour. In downtown Tuscaloosa, at the ABC 33/40 Skycam on the County Courthouse, 1.16 inches have fallen in only a short time. It is still raining very heavily in the Tuscaloosa area and it is now spreading into downtown Birmingham, unfortunately, in the midst of the afternoon rush hour.
