WONDERFUL WEEKEND: I think we will will look forward to a break from the ocean of humidity that has been covering Alabama for the past 5 days. The cold front is near the northwest corner of the state this morning, and will move steadily southward today. We will maintain the chance of a few showers this morning, but we figure by afternoon the most active showers and storms will be south of I-20 as the dry air begins to take over.

Still looks like sunny days, clear nights, low humidity, and cool mornings for the weekend. Lows will be close to 60 both early Sunday and Monday morning, with 50s likely for the cooler places. Highs will remain in the 80s.

And, this looks like an extended period of dry weather; after today we see no significant chance of rain all the way through most of next week as the dry air lingers. Temperatures will remain below average for August in Alabama, and nobody will be griping about that.

BILL: Our hurricane in the Atlantic is behaving properly, and right on track. The big system will move between the East Coast of the U.S. and Bermuda tomorrow, getting close to the Nova Scotia coast by Sunday night, and racing northeast early next week across the North Atlantic as an extra-tropical system, moving in the general direction of Scotland. Once again, look for some huge waves this weekend from the Outer Banks of North Carolina north to Maine. The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.

Busy day… I am speaking at Social South this morning at 10:00 at the Innovation Depot in Birmingham; this is a conference where I will talk about social media applications in the world of weather. Then, at 1:00, I have a weather program at Stemley Road Elementary in Talladega County. I should be able to crank out a Weather Xtreme video by 3:30 or so. Enjoy the day!
