FEELING MORE LIKE AUGUST: Humidity values will continue to slowly rise for the rest of the week, and the risk of a few scattered showers will be increasing as well. Still, today should be mostly dry statewide with the chance of any one spot getting wet only about one in ten, and for now we have not mentioned a chance of rain in our formal forecast. The best chance of a pop up shower this afternoon most likely would be for areas south and east of Birmingham. The high today will be very close to 90 for most communities.

TOMORROW AND FRIDAY: We will mention the chance of scattered showers, and possibly a thunderstorm tomorrow and Friday, with the deeper moisture and best chance of showers over the eastern half of the state. As usual this time of the year, the best chance of a passing shower will be during the afternoon and evening hours, and if you like the POP (probabilities of precipitation) game, the chance of any one spot getting wet tomorrow is 20%, and close to 30% on Friday. I don’t rain will be a big problem for the opening round of high school football games, but a shower is possible in a few stadiums.

OUR WEEKEND: We will maintain the chance of scattered showers and storms on Saturday, not an all-day rain or a wash-out, but that should be the day with the best coverage of showers with an approaching surface front, and developing upper trough over the eastern U.S. For Sunday, we will hang on to the risk of a few showers, especially during the morning, but by mid to late afternoon the dry air should take over.

The first two days of next week look really nice with dry continental air in place; sunny days, clear nights, cool mornings, and low humidity values.

HERE COMES DANNY: Be sure and watch the Weather Xtreme video for details on the tropics, but the disturbance north of Hispaniola is forecast to become Tropical Storm Danny in coming days. It will follow a path very similar to Hurricane Bill last week; recurving just off the East Coast of the U.S. this weekend. The worst effects of the storm should remain offshore, but there will be some wind and rain along the immediate upper Atlantic coast. Danny could become a category one hurricane before weakening in the cooler North Atlantic water next week. The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.
