For the second day in a row, some strong thunderstorms were beginning to develop over roughly the north one-third of Alabama and they were moving slowly toward the SE.

These slow-movers allow even a small thunderstorm to have time to dump very heavy rain.

At 11:45, some of the heaviest showers and storms were over East Franklin County, North Marion County, along the Blount/St. Clair County line and east of Anniston over on the east side of the state.

We just drove from St. Vincent’s East to our home in NE Trussville. Not a drop of rain in NE Trussville, but a real bona fide downpour coming through downtown Trussville. It is only a small storm, but really dumping the rain.

We will have updates throughout the afternoon and evening.

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Special Discussion about parts of Central and East Tennessee eastward and the NE edge of Alabama for some possible strong thunderstorms, however, they do not anticipate a formal severe thunderstorm watch will be needed.
