The thunderstorms across the region this afternoon are behaving differently from those yesterday. Today, most of the storms over the central and eastern part of the state were trying to move ESE and SE, whereas those over the west and NW were trying to move north.
Probably the strongest cluster of storms in the state at the moment is along the Talladega/Clay County line from near Oxford southwestward to Clairmont Springs and Chandler Springs. It is pouring rain in that area.
Other strong storms were over NW Walker and SW Winston Counties.
NWS/Birmingham repeats that these stronger storms can produce strong winds as high as 45 mph. Dangerous lightning is almost automatic with these storms.
OTHER NOTABLE THUNDERSTORMS
* Near Crossville in West Alabama’s Lamar County east of Vernon. There are two Crossvilles in Alabama. The other one is in DeKalb County all the way across the state.
* Over SE Randolph County east and SE of Roanoke
The strong storm that moved NE along the Jefferson/Shelby County line weakened. Alston Keith, the 33/40 skywatcher for Inverness, reported 0.64 rain with that storm and some window-rattling thunder.
DAMAGE REPORTS
The Randolph EMA Office reports winds estimated to 45 mph with a few trees and branches down near Wedowee. A fence was damaged and a building had minor roof damage.
