A broad curved band of showers and thunderstorms continues to swirl northward through Alabama.

The wide band of showers and storms, 50 to 60 miles wide in places, by 4:30 this afternoon had spread as far north as Walker and parts of Marion, Winston and Cullman County

Rain and thunderstorms continued extensive in coverage from Chilton County SE through Montgomery, Auburn, Phenix City, Ozark and Dothan just to name a few.

Earlier today showers dumped 2.07 inches at Huntsville–a record for September 14. Previous record was 1.23 inches 109 years ago in 1900.

0.98 was reported this afternoon by the 3340 skywatcher in Inverness. At one point the rain was coming down at the rate of eight inches per hour. More than one inch reported at Ross Bridge and an estimated two inches in Altadena. Very heavy also at Liberty Park and Brook Highland.

These are tropical showers and they can dump a surprising amount of rain in a short time.
