Nice to have the BMX radar back up and running. Just keeps from having to switch back and forth between radars to get the best views.
Thanks to JB for letting me get a couple of hours of shut eye. I don’t see how he does it. I didn’t want to see this mess when I woke back up though.
Heavy thunderstorms cover the middle of Alabama like a heavyweight flooding champion’s belt, from Pickens/Greene/northern Sumter on the west through Tuscaloosa/Bibb, then Chilton, Coosa/Elmore and Tallapoosa Counties.
The line has become more east/west since I left, which is not a good sign. That kind of tells me that there is a boundary across the middle of the state that will be the focus for very heavy rain over the next few hours.
That storm up in Lamar County indicates that the area may be lifting back north again, which could push flooding problems back up into the Birmingham area, as well as Walker and Tuscaloosa Counties.
LETS FOCUS
New Flash Flood Warning for Tuscaloosa County until 430 a.m. CDT. Lots of rain and storms moving back up into Tuscaloosa County and it is getting heavier. 0.88 inches between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. at the Tuscaloosa Airport.
FF Warning for NW Greene, Pickens and northern Sumter Counties til 345…heavy storm near Carrollton with lots of lightning…over 6 inches of rain since yesterday afternoon between Pickensville and Carrollton. Upstream: Worried about cell near Philadelphia. It could head that way.
FF Warning for Bibb, northern Perry, northern Hale and South Tuscaloosa Counties til 445…rain has let up a little from Greensboro to Centreville…but still coming down. There may have been 6 inches or more of rain tonight over northern Hale County east of Moundville.
FF Warning for southern Jefferson, northern Bibb, northern Shelby and eastern Tuscaloosa Counties til 3:00…moderate rain covers much of this area at this hour, with some lightning over Shelby County and near Tuscaloosa. The thunderstorm activity seems to be lifting back up into this area, however, and this could exacerbate our problems.
FF Warning for Chilton County til 345…big storms from Jemison to Clanton and ove rinto eastern parts of the county. I-65 not fit for man nor beast tonight in between these exits. New seedling storms over Dallas County may be signs of trouble for Chilton.
Further east: problems. Storms are intensifying over Coosa County, as well as Tallapoosa and Chambers Counties. These storms will lift into Clay and Randolph Counties. Rainfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour in the heavier cells will result in flooding. Pushing three inches now on radar east of Alex City. Look for new flash flood warnings to be issued. Coosa County has received about 5 inches of rain on average in the past seven days, but northern Tallapoosa and Chamber Counties have received less. That might help a little.
Moderate rain over Talladega, Calhoun and Cleburne Counties.
In the Birmingham area: rain now to the southwest over Tuscaloosa and surrounding counties will lift northeast back into the Birmingham metro over the next couple of hours. Most of Jefferson County has been lucky on far since Sunday afternoon, with no rain having fallen. One half inch of rain generally from southern Jefferson into northeastern Jefferson. 0.43 inches here in Trussville. But Jefferson County has received its share this week, with a 5-6 inch axis along I-59 and over 9 inches in the northeastern part of the county.
