An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

RIGHT NOW: As expected, we have a few scattered showers and storms on the radar screen this afternoon. The strongest storm as of this writing is about 15 miles southwest of Muscle Shoals in Northwest Alabama; other scattered ones are over the eastern counties of the state. We will maintain the risk of a few scattered showers and storms tonight.

TOMORROW: Rain and storms are a good bet tomorrow as the closed upper low that has been over the nation’s heartland opens up and moves east as a short wave. The rain won’t fall all day, but it could come at any time, and a few heavy downpours are likely with the stronger storms. The 12Z NAM has come in drier, showing 0.44″ for Birmingham. But, the GFS is now wetter with 0.80″. We figure most places will see between 1/2 and 1 inch of rain tomorrow. Showers will end from northwest to southeast tomorrow evening.

SUNDAY AND NEXT WEEK: Drier air arrives Sunday; we expect a partly sunny and warm day with a high in the mid 80s. A secondary front will pass through Monday in dry fashion, setting up some really nice weather for the middle of next week with sunny days, clear nights, cool mornings, and low humidity. We will drop down into the 50s Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning. The coolest morning should be early Wednesday, when some of the normally colder spots across North Alabama could briefly visit the 40s.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: There is about a 1 in 4 chance that a shower or thunderstorm will occur for high school games tonight with the better chance at some of the North and West Alabama stadiums. Alabama will host Arkansas for a 2:30 kick off. There is a good chance of showers and thunderstorms at some point during the game. It should be near 80 at kick off. Auburn hosts Ball State for a 6:00 p.m. kick off. Some rain is likely with near 78 at kick off. UAB travels out to East Texas to play Texas A&M for a 6:00 p.m. kick off. They should have dry weather and near 80 degrees.

TROPICS: Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see now the guys at NHC are flagging the disturbance in the East Atlantic as having a better than 50 percent chance of becoming a tropical depression; one way or another this should turn north into the open Atlantic, and it is no threat to land.
