FINE FALL WEATHER: A Polar cold front will pass through Alabama today, followed by the coolest air so far this young fall season. There might be one or two small showers today with that front, but the chance of any one neighborhood getting wet is so small that we won’t mention it in the forecast. The high today will be in the low 80s with a good supply of sunshine.
COOL NIGHTS: Most guidance suggests lows between 50 and 54 for the Birmingham metro tomorrow; needless to say the outlying areas will be in the 40s, and the coldest valleys have a chance of reaching the low to mid 40s. Now that is some fall weather… the high tomorrow will be only in the mid 70s with a sunny sky, a fresh north breeze, and very low humidity. Still looks like the coolest morning will come early Wednesday, when just about everybody should wind up in the 40s. We figure places like Valley Head have a crack at seeing upper 30s for the first time this season. The dry air stays in place through Thursday.
FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: The 00Z GFS shows a strong upper low setting up over the Midwest at the end of the week, and a surface front approaching Friday. Based on this, we will expect a pretty decent chance of showers and storms Friday afternoon and Friday night. Beyond that, the 00Z run hints the rain will end very early Saturday morning, followed by dry weather for the rest of the weekend. That is not carved in stone since we have seen some runs that keep Saturday wet… let’s take a look at the 12Z run before we feel too confident about it. Sunday looks dry one way or another.
TROPICS: The Atlantic basin remains amazingly quiet, and tropical storm formation is not expected through Friday.
THE LAND OF VOODOO: The mid-latitude westerlies deepen as we peek into mid-October, and it looks like a few cold fronts will pass through with a chance of showers from time to time, and a few nice shots of cool air from the north.
