Scattered showers and thunderstorms were increasing over extreme North Alabama early on this Friday afternoon. Most of the lightning was confined to the Tennessee Valley.
The NWS/Huntsville issued a Special Weather Statement for North Madison County until 1:00 p.m. They did that because of a strong thunderstorm 5 miles SW of Hazel Green moving slowly south at 10 mph. Heavy rain, along with hail (pea-size to dime-size) and brief gusts to 30 mph can be expected with this storm. It is possible that as much as 1.50 inches of rain per hour are possible with this storm.
It may affect places like Hazel Green, Gladstone and Toney.
Over in NW Alabama, South Colbert and North Franklin Counties has already received quite a bit of rain late this morning and this afternoon. At 1:20 p.m., some scattered storms were also developing southward into Marion County and NW Lawrence County. There was also one in extreme NW Walker County near Carbon Hill.
Besides the strong storm north of Huntsville, another one was over adjacent portions of Western Jackson County and one near Ft. Payne in DeKalb County.
Because of slow movement, some folks will get a good rain and others will not.
Around the rest of Alabama, showers and storms were very scarce at 1:20.
