From the NWS:
Good Afternoon…the warnings that are being issued are due to several factors. Rotation has been noted in several storms this afternoon but no confirmed damage or tornadoes. 0-1 km helicity values remain very high from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham and northwestward. Rather warm temperatures aloft are limiting the bouyancy of the atmosphere across the area.
But there appears to be a warm frontal boundary from near Alabaster to Hamilton that has the surface winds backing to a southeasterly direction.
This will enhance the possibility of a tornado reaching the ground for areas including Pickens..Tuscaloosa…Marion…Winston…Walker…Lamar…Fayette for the next hour or so.
