A Significant Weather Alert falls short of a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, since the criteria is lower, we get a whole lot more of those. Here is the latest.
* NWS/Birmingham issued a Significant Weather Alert for Chilton, Coosa and Shelby Counties until 1:45. This includes the City of Columbiana. They issued that because of a thunderstorm 7 miles south of Columbiana moving east at 20. It could produce winds to 45 mph and the lightning, of course, is not to be taken lightly. You definitely should not be on a boat or any of the waterways in that area. It is pouring rain over much of Chilton County, as well as SE Perry County.
* The 33/40 skywatcher for Jemison, in North Chilton County, reports 1.03 so far and still coming down along with lots of lightning and thunder. In Fayette, the skywatcher reports 0.80 and more big storms now in Lamar County will be moving toward Fayette. They could easily get an additional inch of rain when those get there.
* At 1:00 p.m., radar showed pouring rain over much of Lamar County down through West Pickens County and into NW Sumter County. Those storms are in a line and moving toward the ENE. Places like Sumter, Greene, Pickens, Lamar, Fayette and maybe Tuscaloosa Counties will get a drenching later from these storms.
* Scattered storms were also forming over Winston, Lawrence, Morgan and Cullman Counties in North/Central Alabama.
