At 2:15 this afternoon, storms continued to march east and ENE across North Alabama. The leading eastern storms were over Eastern Shelby, Talladega and Coosa Counties extending down to NW of Montgomery.

We have reports out of Sylacauga that it was raining so hard that all cars were pulling over on US-280 in the area.

In the heart of Central Alabama, Jemison has received 1.11 inches of rain. Over on the west side, Fayette has received 0.90.

Our Childersburg skywatcher reports that cloud-to-ground lightning has been almost constant in that area for the last three hours.

The Lamar County EMA Office reported water two feet deep on Highway 18 near Vernon. Showers and storms in Lamar County have weakened a whole bunch and most of the heavier ones are now over NE Marion County, Northern Winston County, the eastern parts of Franklin and Colbert and Lawrence County. Showers and storms have weakened greatly in Lamar, Fayette, Pickens, Sumter and Tuscaloosa Counties.

But, it is still raining very heavily in Hale County and North Marengo County. Further east, very heavy rain is indicated over SW St. Clair County and extending down into Coosa and Elmore Counties.

The earlier thunderstorms seemed to milk some of the energy, and that is one reason that big line of storms that moved into West Alabama from East Mississippi did not hold together everywhere along the line.

Don’t forget. for the 12 zillionth time, lightning is frightening.
