An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

DRY THROUGH SUNDAY: A fresh shot of cool, dry air moves into Alabama later today, and it should keep us dry through the weekend. We will rise into the low 70s today, but the high tomorrow will be back in the mid 60s with a cool north breeze. Most spots will wind up in the upper 30s at daybreak Friday, with potential for a light freeze across the coldest valleys.

An upper ridge eases into Alabama from the south over the weekend, meaning warmer afternoons. We are looking at highs in the mid 70s Saturday and Sunday with a good supply of sunshine both days.

NEXT WEEK: No doubt rain will return to Alabama at some point next week, but confidence in a specific forecast is very low since every model run looks different. Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 00Z GFS brings in a slug of moisture Monday with a chance of showers and storms, followed by just a few scattered showers each day for the rest of the week. We are still projecting the better chance of showers on Tuesday and Wednesday in our forecast, but be aware that might change as new data rolls in. We don’t expect any really heavy rain or severe weather next week with general ridging still in place. A deep upper trough forms out west toward the end of the week, which will impact us in about 10 to 12 days.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

STORM ALERT XTREME: Want to be trained as a storm spotter? Want to join the ABC 33/40 Skywatcher team? Our annual training event, Storm Alert Xtreme, is coming up on Saturday November 14 at the BJCC during the annual Birmingham International Auto Show. You will be trained by the best SKYWARN trainer in the nation, our own Brian Peters (he has trained over 6,000 Alabama storm spotters over the years). We encourage all of our Skywatchers to attend this every year; you simply cannot get enough training. We will begin at 9:30, and be out by 3:30. And, everyone that attends Storm Alert Xtreme gets free admission to the Alabama International Auto Show. There is no admission charge, and no need to register. Just show up, but get there early for a good seat. We had a packed house last year.

This morning I am doing a meteorology program for the 6th graders at Berry Middle School in Hoover… then I will be with a big group of realtors at lunch for a RealtySouth 10-K drawing. I will be back in the office by early afternoon, and the next Weather Xtreme video will be posted by 3:30. Enjoy the day!
